UP man, accused of stealing from churches, arrested in Tennessee

CHIPPEWA COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Chippewa County authorities say that one of the county’s most wanted criminals has been found and arrested in Tennessee.

Joseph Leonard Ellsworth III was wanted for seven felony warrants out of both Chippewa and Mackinac counties.

Ellsworth is accused of breaking into multiple churches in Chippewa County and stealing money from them.

The charges he’s facing include home invasion, malicious destruction of property, multiple counts of breaking and entering, along with receiving stolen property.

Authorities say arrangements are being made to bring Ellsworth back to Chippewa County to face the criminal charges.
