MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)- The 5th annual U.P. Pride Fest is coming up this Saturday at Tourist Park in Marquette. Events start at noon and runs until 10 pm.
They're planning to have local music and food, drink and merchandise vendors. Thanks to a grant from the Marquette Community Foundation, U.P. Pride is hosting a famous deaf poet from Milwaukee.
There will be an amateur drag competition starting at 8 pm. A children’s area will be available as well. Entry is free, however U.P. Pride is asking attendees for a two dollar donation.
Event organizer David Shew says the festival brings the LGBT community together.
“In the U.P. there is nothing for the LGBT community,” said David Shew, Chairperson for U.P. Pride. “So by doing this we at least let the other people who may think they're all alone know that there are other people out there. Our eventual goal is to hopefully get funding to have an LGBT community center here in Marquette.”
This year's pride fest is sponsored by Planned Parenthood. Everyone is invited to join. For more information on U.P. Pride, visit http://www.uprainbowpride.org/
