U.P. Honor Flight Mission XVII is ready to go

ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - Tuesday night was the banquet for Mission XVII of the U.P. Honor Flight in Escanaba. Veterans gathered at the Quality Inn to dine and be entertained the night before they will head to Washington DC to view all of the major memorials.

Veterans from World War II, the Korean War, and Vietnam are on the trip. Organizers say one of the best parts actually comes after the trip.

"In the following weeks I'm going to get the phone calls and the letters in the mail and and the stories and what happened and it's just unbelievable how things work out," said U.P. Honor Flight President, Scott Knauf. "There's Honor Flight magic that we don't plan, but it just happens."

TV6's own Andrew LaCombe will be joining the veterans on their flight. They take off early Wednesday morning, have a whirlwind day of sightseeing in the nations capitol and return Wednesday night. We will have full coverage throughout the day and night Wednesday and the days following.
