Two injured in head-on crash in Franklin Township Thursday

FRANKLIN TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Two people were injured in a head-on crash on Thursday in Franklin Township.

According to the Michigan State Police Calumet Post, the crash happened at approximately 1:17 p.m. near the intersection of M-26 and Coal Dock Road.

MSP's initial investigation showed the eastbound car entered the westbound lane on M-26, and collided with a westbound pick-up truck hauling a boat and trailer. The crash caused extensive damage to both vehicles.

The driver and passenger of the car were both transported to UP Health System-Portage by Mercy Ambulance, but the extent of their injuries in unknown. The driver of the pick-up truck was not injured.

The names of those involved will not be released until more information is gathered, MSP said.

The crash remains under investigation with further actions pending.

MSP Troopers were assisted by the Hancock City Police, Houghton County Sheriff's Office, Mercy Ambulance, Dollar Bay Fire Department, a local medical doctor, area first responders, Superior Service Towing and Dave's Towing.
