UPDATE: Names of teenage girls released in deadly Gogebic County crash

IRONWOOD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: Monday, May 20, 3:52 p.m:

The names of the two teenage girls who died in a single vehicle crash on Saturday morning have been released.

They were identified as 18-year-old Lauren Powless and 15-year-old Madeline Jackson. Twenty-year-old Zachery Hammon survived the crash.

The Gogebic County Sheriff's Office says the investigation into the crash is still ongoing and that no further information will be released at this time.


Two teenage girls were killed and one man was injured early Saturday morning after a vehicle ran off the road and hit a tree.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash around 2:30 a.m. Deputies said they found a single vehicle crash on Lake Road in Ironwood Township.

According to the deputies, the vehicle sustained severe damages. Two girls, ages 18 and 15, were killed. A 20-year-old man survived and was taken to Aspirus Ironwood Hospital where he was treated and release.

The investigation is ongoing, and names have not been released.

The Gogebic County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by Michigan State Police Wakefield Post, Beacon Ambulance and Gogebic County Victims Services.
