New court date for man involved in Schoolcraft County drug, money laundering investigation

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Ryan St. John's next court date is September 5 at 10 a.m.

Two additional arrests have been made in an ongoing investigation into drug distribution and money laundering in Schoolcraft County.

The narcotics investigation was initiated in February 2019, and in continuing that investigation, officers seized 85 grams of crystal methamphetamine (estimated street value of $13,000) from a residence in Schoolcraft County. Because of this, additional felony warrants were issued for 43-year-old Ryan Richard St. John. He currently remains in custody on a previous drug arrest on February 26.

St. John was arraigned in 93rd District Court on the following charges on Friday, March 15:

Count 1: Controlled Substance - Delivery/Manufacture - Methamphetamine; Felony punishable by 20 years and/or $25,000
Count 2: Conspiracy to Commit Controlled Substance - Delivery/Manufacture - Methamphetamine; Felony punishable by 20 years and/or $10,000
Count 3: Obstruction of Justice; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000
Count 4: Money Laundering - 3rd Degree; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000
Count 5: Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering - 3rd Degree; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000

St. John's bond was set at $1 million cash/surety. He has a preliminary hearing scheduled for these charges on April 3 at 1 p.m.

Officers also made two additional arrests in conjunction with this ongoing case.

Thomas James LaVance, 46, was arrested and charged with the following:

Count 1: Money Laundering - 3rd Degree; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $50,000 or twice the value of the proceeds, whichever amount is greater
Count 2: Conspiracy to Commit Money Laundering - 3rd Degree; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000

LaVance's bond was set at $50,000 cash/surety with 10 percent allowed. His next court date has not yet been set.

Stephanie Ann Porter, 38, was arrested and charged with one count of Money Laundering - 3rd Degree; Felony punishable by 5 years and/or $10,000.

Porter's bond was set at $25,000 cash/surety with 10 percent allowed. Her next court date has not yet been set.

The investigation into meth and narcotics distributions in Manistique and Schoolcraft County is ongoing.
