Two Schoolcraft County residents plead guilty to money laundering charges

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Two people arrested as a result of an ongoing drug investigation in Schoolcraft County pleaded guilty to reduced charges Wednesday in Schoolcraft County District Court.

Thomas James LaVance, 46, and Stephanie Ann Porter, 38, pleaded guilty to money laundering in the fourth degree.

They were also sentenced to 12 months of probation during Wednesday’s hearing.

LaVance and Porter were arrested after a narcotics investigation was initiated back in February. Schoolcraft County police seized 85 grams of crystal methamphetamine from a residence in Schoolcraft County, which estimated at a street value of $13,000.

A man who was already facing drug charges in Schoolcraft, Ryan St. John had more drug charges and money laundering charges added against him as a result of this investigation.

St John is due back in court on April 18.
