Three swimmers rescued in Lake Michigan

On August 4 at 5:36 p.m., the Manistique Public Safety Department was dispatched to Range Street and U.S. 2 for a ten year old boy having difficulty getting to shore while swimming in Lake Michigan.
Upon arrival, officers were advised that there were three victims in the water.
Witnesses stated that two young boys had been swimming when they started having difficulty in the high waves.
The father of the boys went into the water to try and help his children.
All the victims were retrieved from the water by officers and EMS personnel.
The boys did not need any treatment. The 53 year old man was transported to Schoolcraft Memorial Hospital and then air lifted to U.P. Health System Marquette in critical condition.
The family was vacationing in the area at the time of the incident.
