Coming in June 2020, a new exhibit at the Marquette Regional History Center (MRHC) called 'The Great Outdoors.'

Thanks to a grant of more than $5,000 from the Michigan Humanities Council, work is underway on this new special exhibit. It will highlight the history of outdoor recreation in the Upper Peninsula.

The exhibit is being put together with help of the folks at the Northern Michigan University Outdoor Recreation Department.

"Outdoor recreation has been an important factor in shaping Upper Peninsula culture since the 1840s. And it really hasn't been documented as thoroughly as it should have been. And so this is an attempt to kind of correct that," said MRHC Fundraising Manager, Adam Berger.

The history center is looking for those with information and experience about the history of recreation in the area. For more information on getting involved, contact the MRHC, or visit their
