(WDBJ7) -- Observers will be able to catch a blue moon Friday, this one isn't your typical blue moon, this one is a seasonal blue moon.
The full moon for the month of May is known as the 'Full Flower Moon.' It got its name because flowers are most abundant during this time.
Seasonal Blue moons are said to occur once every two to three years.
According to The Old Farmer's Almanac, the Blue Moon will reach its peak this Friday, May 18 at 5:11 p.m. (EDT).
If you have been keeping up with the celestial bodies this year, you've witnessed everything from January's 'Super Blood Wolf Moon' to April's 'Full Pink Moon'.
The next event to keep an eye out for is the 'Full Strawberry Moon' which is said to occur June 17.
Another seasonal blue moon won't occur until two years from now, on August 22, 2021.
