IRON RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) - Iron County is preparing its towns for the 51st Annual Upper Peninsula Rodeo. The rodeo is bringing back all the loved events that make for great family memories.
"Tomorrow we start off with our Family Fun Night, it's from 5-8pm here at the rodeo grounds. We will have free activities, live music from Love and County,” U.P. Rodeo Vice President, Sari Jacobson, told TV6 News. “We have an appearance from the Silver Spurs 4H club in the arena, we will have our rodeo clown, Burt Davis, here. Lots of different things happening and it's a free event for families. There's free parking and free admission."
This rodeo brings so much more than just good memories and family time, it also bring a little boost in customers for local businesses.
"All those people are staying here, they're spending their dollars here,” Iron County’s Economic Chamber Alliance’s Executive Director, Paul Shuytema, said. “They have to go to Angeli's Food to get groceries. They have to go to the restaurants. After the rodeo events, they go to Kermits for pizza or Riverside for pizza or a bar for a beer."
"We are expecting a very busy time like always,” Crystal Mazurek, a waitress and manager at Mr. T’s Family Restaurant said. “We have a lot of extra help on. Usually on Saturday after the parade, we will be crowded until, well, usually all night."
With the number of people who attend each year, the whole county is preparing for the extra travelers.
"They're not just staying in Iron River,” Shuytema added. “We don't have enough beds for people to stay just in Iron River so it spreads out to the entire region. Those dollar enrich everybody."
