ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - People from all over the country are headed to stores today to purchase holiday presents. In Escanaba, many shoppers headed to a different kind of sale.
The TV6 Thanksgiving Craft Show began on Friday, Nov. 29. Artists and crafters gathered at the Ruth Butler Building at the UP State Fairgrounds to showcase their work.
A wide variety of items were for sale, including jewelry, knitted works, wood items and gourmet foods.
Even though this might not be the most common form of Black Friday shopping, event organizers believe that it serves an important purpose locally.
“Local artists are also like small town businesses, and this time of year a lot of the cities promote the small towns. I think it’s important to support these people too, they may not have a brick and mortar, but they work hard at their craft.” Nancy Webster, TV6 Craft Show Coordinator.
The event takes place again from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 30, at the Ruth Butler Building.
