MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Wednesday evening the Marquette Symphony Orchestra kicked off their Summer Strings concert series. The group performed at the Marquette Commons while the farmers market was also being held.

They also teamed up with performers from Lake Superior Theater for a medley of their upcoming show Fiddler on the Roof. After that, the group dove into some classical pieces and early American folk tunes. The series Coordinator says they're looking to make classical music more fun and expose new people to it.

"We hope that they see classical music isn't something to be afraid of, that it can be really fun, it's really pleasant and enjoyable."

Wednesday was the first of three shows for the summer strings series. Up next for the group is a show on July 10 at the Peter White Public Library.
