Structure fire in Ironwood, reported as total loss

IRONWOOD, Mich. (WLUC) - The Ironwood Fire Department responded to a structure fire Wednesday at 8:43AM at 401 N. Hemlock Street in the City of Ironwood.

The home was fully engulfed by the time officials were on scene. No one was in the home, but it is believed two dogs were inside. Firefighters were able to rescue one dog and officials say the other perished in the fire.

Fire personnel remained on scene with fire suppression efforts until 1:42PM. The home is considered a total loss.

Cause and origin are unknown at this time and the blaze remains under investigation.

Eight IPSD Officers and four volunteer firefighters responded. Fire personnel were also assisted by the Gogebic County Sheriff's Department and Beacon Ambulance.
