UPDATE: Police identify remains found in burned Mackinac County car

UPDATE at 10:00 a.m. July 17:
Detectives from the Michigan State Police St. Ignace Post have identified the victim whose remains were discovered when troopers responded to a burning vehicle last week.
Using dental records, detectives have determined the victim to be Douglas Kievit, 57, of Hessel.
According to MSP, troopers were called to East Simmons Road, in Mackinac County’s Marquette Township, on Tuesday, July 10, around 6:00 a.m. following reports of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames in the middle of the road. The remains were discovered once the fire was extinguished.

Dental records and/or DNA testing will be used to help determine identity.
