MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The state budget was the center of discussion Tuesday at the Marquette County Board Meeting.
Board members called upon lawmakers in Lansing to work together on a solution. As a result of line-item vetoes in the budget, it’s estimated the county stands to lose roughly $800,000.
They believe an agreement has been made between Governor Gretchen Whitmer and the Speaker of the House to negotiate the budget. But, the senate is reluctant to join in those talks.
“It seems like the big sticking point is the state senate, and we’re working on encouraging Senator McBroom and his caucus to get after the leader of the Senate to sit down and work out these problems,” said Gerry Corkin, Marquette County Board Chairman.
Other topics on the agenda included approval of the 2020 meeting schedule and discussion on snow removal practices following last week’s storm.
