Stamp Out Hunger another success

United States postal workers picked up millions of pounds of food left next to mailboxes on May 14 for the national Stamp Out Hunger food drive.
For the 24th year, mail carriers picked up non-perishable food items along with the mail. The food goes to local distribution agencies, which said the drive helps more people donate.
"A lot of times people in the rural areas are unable to really bring in and donate to the society. this way, they are getting included into the drive,"
St. Vincent de Paul Society Conference of Gladstone president Gale St. Martin said.
Food is distributed in the same area where it was collected. The Postal Service gave out special blue bags for food, but all food was accepted in any bag.
St. Vincent de Paul of Gladstone leaders said they expected to collect up to a ton of food.
