South Range man gets probation for leading police on a high speed chase

HOUGHTON COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - A South Range man was sentenced November 19 for fleeing police.

31-year-old James Nixon received probation time and fines and costs for second degree OWI and second degree driving on a suspended license.

His third degree charge of fleeing and eluding was dismissed on the 19.

On November 3, around 2:14 AM, Houghton Police attempted to stop a vehicle for driving carelessly in the Village of South Range.

Nixon, the driver of the vehicle, began eluding police by driving at a high rate of speed. The case continued north onto Trail #3. Nixon’s vehicle crashed into trees adjacent to the trail entrapping both him and his 35-year-old passenger. Police were able to assist both occupants out of the vehicle.

Nixon and his passenger were transported to UP Health System-Portage for treatment of their injuries by Mercy Ambulance.
