Small fire damages building, kills snake at Naubinway zoo

NAUBINWAY, Mich. (WLUC) - A small fire damaged a caged area and a killed a snake at a zoo in the eastern Upper Peninsula.

According to the GarLyn Zoo Wildlife Park's Facebook page, Tuesday morning there was a "small fire in our heated building. Unfortunately, we lost our red tail boa."

The zoo said it's a very sad day for the zoo, but said all other animals are doing well. The heated building will remain closed to the public while debris from the fire is cleaned up.

On Facebook, the zoo also said, "Thank you so much for all your concerns and help. We appreciate all the support from everyone that came today!"

The GarLyn Zoo is located at W9104 US-2 in Naubinway.
