A Skandia woman was hospitalized Wednesday morning after hitting a large snowdrift with her SUV.

According to the Marquette County Sheriff's office, 58-year-old Deborah Monty was driving north on US-41 near East Johnson Road around 5:35 a.m. when she hit the large snowdrift, causing her to lose control of her vehicle.

She slid sideways and then entered the snowbank, where she overturned her Jeep Grand Cherokee and came to rest against a tree on its driver's side.

She was removed from the vehicle and taken to UP Health System-Marquette. Her injuries are not life-threatening, authorities say.

Skandia Township Fire and Rescue assisted at the scene.
