SKANDIA, Mich. (WLUC)- The Skandia Lions Club hosted their 4th annual Winter Carnival Saturday. The event took place at Maple Lanes Archery and Ski Club in Skandia.

From 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. visitors could rent cross-country skis and snowshoes for a discounted price. Chili, hot dogs, and other concessions were also on sale. With all proceeds from the event benefiting area food banks.

The club raised almost 400 dollars at last year’s Winter Carnival. They hope to beat those numbers this year.

“We like to promote more unity in the community. Get the community together,” said Ron Stenfors, President of the Skandia Lions Club. “We're pretty scattered here between Skandia and West Branch township. There's a lot of people but they're spread out over a very large area. We like to get the word out that there are community things that can be done.”

The club is also holding their annual scholarship raffle where contestants can win a deer rifle or compound bow. That drawing will be in May.
