HOUGHTON, Mich. (WLUC) - The Houghton City Police Department is investigating a 6-vehicle property damage accident which occurred on Monday, November 5th at approximately 4:40pm on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.
Police say the bridge had vehicle traffic stopped to allow for a ship to pass through. The bridge then reopened to traffic and the congested traffic stopped quickly on the south end of the bridge. A total of 6 vehicles were involved in multiple rear end accidents on the south end of the bridge.
The accidents remain under investigation with the Houghton Police Department.
Assisting at the scene were the Hancock Police Department and the Michigan State Police.
The Houghton Police Department would like to remind drivers to remember to not follow too closely to vehicles in front of them as this is one of the leading causes of accidents.
