MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - The local League of Women Voters of Marquette County plans to register young voters throughout the area to celebrate the “national holiday.” On September 24, 2019, Americans will celebrate National Voter Registration Day with a massive 50-state effort to register voters before Election Day this November.

Voters should exercise their right to be heard at the ballot box this year and next. National Voter Registration Day is the right place to start by getting registered. That is why communities across the country are planning to use National Voter Registration Day to increase voter participation.

The League of Women Voters of Michigan, Marquette County Member-At-Large State Unit is proud to be a National Voter Registration Day partner.

On September 24, League volunteers will partner with five schools throughout the county to talk with students about the importance of voting and to help eligible students fill out the application to vote.

As a nonpartisan holiday for democracy, National Voter Registration Day counts on thousands of partners and volunteers across the political spectrum.

“We have a wonderful group of committed League volunteers in Marquette County who hope to be spending their time throughout the day with students in Republic-Michigamme, Ishpeming, Negaunee, the Gwinn Area Community Schools and NICE Community Schools” said Darlene Allen, Unit Chair of the Marquette County League.

The League volunteers will also be sharing information about the option of no reason absentee voting to help young voters, who are not able to get to the polls, exercise their right and their responsibility to vote.

The goal for the 2019 National Voter Registration Day is to increase participation by encouraging Americans to register to vote and come out to the polls every election.

“National Voter Registration Day is a positive way for our volunteers to celebrate democracy with young voters throughout the county” said Allen.

National Voter Registration Day is designed to create an annual moment when the entire nation focuses on registering Americans to exercise their most basic right – the right to vote.
