Schoolcraft County authorities respond to 2 snowmobile crashes in 20 minutes

SCHOOLCRAFT COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - Two snowmobilers were injured in two separate crashes Monday in Schoolcraft and Delta counties.

According to the Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to Trail 7 on County Road 437 Monday. They found a 69-year-old woman who got hurt after missing a turn on the trail and hitting a tree. She was airlifted from the scene.

Authorities say 20 minutes later, another crash was reported on Trail 7 near County Road 440 just outside of Schoolcraft County and into Delta County. Investigating deputies found a snowmobiler who missed a turn on the trail and hit a tree. The snowmobiler was taken by Manistique EMS.

No names or conditions have been released.

The Schoolcraft County Sheriff's Office would like to remind trail riders to have a heightened sense of safety while following trail laws, maintaining appropriate speeds and refraining from drinking alcohol while riding. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the two crashes Monday, authorities said.
