Community members in Sawyer spent Monday evening wrapping presents and stuffing stockings as part of the first ever Sawyer Senior Santa Project.

Sawyer citizen Ryan Lipinski came up with the idea for this project and brought it to the Sawyer Community Alliance.

Together they raised the money to put together presents for at least 30 seniors in their community.

Lipinski said he believes it is important to remember seniors during the holiday season.

"And the seniors that we are taking care of are home alone and single, by themselves, and they don't have family around and that can get kind of hard and sad around Christmas time,” said Lipinski. “And we want to make sure that they know and understand that there community loves them and we are here for them.”

The presents will be hand-delivered to the senior citizens on December 21, 2019 by Santa Claus, Mrs. Claus and even a reindeer.

Lipinski and the Sawyer Community Alliance hope to make this an annual event.
