Sault Ste. Marie man charged with 14 counts following sexual assault, child porn investigation

SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. (WLUC) - The Chippewa County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a Sault Ste. Marie man after an investigation into a sexual assault and child pornography case.

47-year-old Duane Richard Forrest is charged with three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 1st Degree against a Child, three counts of Producing Child Sexually Abusive Material, three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 3rd Degree against a Child, three counts of Criminal Sexual Conduct 2nd Degree against a Child, and two counts of Accosting a Child for Immoral Purposes.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, the initial crimes occurred outside of Sault Ste. Marie but inside of Chippewa County.

A search warrant was executed at an address on Tweed St. in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday. Sheriff’s Deputies said they found evidence of these crimes and others during their search.

In a press release, the Sheriff’s Office said that Forrest has lived in the Chippewa County Area most of his life, however he did live in Lower Michigan for a short period of time.

Deputies have identified some of the victims however they believe there are potentially more.

The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information regarding Mr. Forrest or any other potential victims to please contact their Office and ask for Detective Mitchell.

The Chippewa County Sheriff's Office and Homeland Security Investigations will be continuing the investigation.

Detectives from TRIDENT, Sault Ste. Marie PD and HSI all assisted in executing the search warrant.

Forrest was arraigned in the 91st District Court Thursday and his bond was set at $1,000,000.
