MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Due to an increase in families purchasing ATVs, the Marquette County Sheriff's Office wanted to reinforce a few safety reminders.
Each manufacturer has specific limits on how many people should ride on ATVs.
Due to this, Sheriff Greg Zyburt advises people to follow their rules. He also says it's important for people stay in control and don't drink and drive.
"More and more people are out on the trail,” said Sheriff Zyburt. “You have to be more responsible and watch what you're doing. A lot of people are out there on the weekends, and if you're going too fast or you don't see them coming around the curve, you're going to cause accidents, so it is important for people to be familiar with their vehicle, keep the speeds down and don't drink."
Sheriff Zyburt also notes there are deputies from their Special Operations Department monitoring trails to see if people are violating rules.
With this in mind, he warns people to be careful or face the consequences.
