MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - The Noquemanon Skijor Club is preparing for a big race coming up at the end of January. The group met Tuesday to go over some skills and then hit the trails for practice.

Skijor is cross country skiing while being pulled by dogs using a special harness. The sport has competitions around the world. The groups president says it's a great way to enjoy the outdoors with your pets.

"It's a great way to bond with your dog, it's also a great way to exercise your dog in the winter," said Club President Brent Skaw. "It's hard to get everyone off the couch when it's weather like this outside, so it's fun to see them and a great bond to work with them on the trail as a team. It's not just them pulling you, you have to work as well and you have to manage the dog."

The Skijorers will be competing in the 'Wild Side of the Noque, on January 28. The group is always looking for more members, you can find more information on them by checking out the related link on this page.
