MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Superior Arts Youth Theater or SAY Theater is asking for some community support. The group is currently in a charity challenge across the Midwest.
Superior Arts Youth Theater presents Legally Blonde Jr., the musical.
It's a friendly fundraising competition called the Art Van Charity Challenge. Non-profit groups each vie for a chance at $250,000 in grand prize money. There are also weekly drawings as well. The Executive Director of SAY Theater says there are a lot of costs the average patron doesn't know about putting on any show.
"Right now we're putting on Frozen Jr. Well that costs us close to $5,000 just for the rights, to say we've got this show and we can legally put it on stage for you, that's before we start rehearsals, before we hire people to work with the kids, before we have costumes on them or a set," said SAY Theater Executive Director Jalina McClain. "Really this is a chance for our donors and people in our community to come out and support us now."
This is the 11th year for the Art Van Charity Challenge. The non-profit group that can raise the most will have the best chance at the grand prize money. The competition is open until September 27.
