UPDATE: Return to winter creates messy driving conditions, minor personal injury happened

CHOCOLAY TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: The Marquette County Sheriff's Office responded to the report of a one car crash that occurred on M-28 near Shot Point in Chocolay Township. The driver Morgan Sontag, 21, was driving a 2007 Ford Escape heading east on M-28. According to witnesses, the driver was attempting to pass a semi in the four lane passing zone, but on the right side of the road. A semi truck was traveling on the plowed inside lane at the time.

Sontag said she hit the slush and lost control heading towards the shoulder and into the water filled ditch. The vehicle rolled one and a half times landing on the roof. The four occupants were able to exit the vehicle with help from passersby. There were no injuries. Sontag was cited for driving too fast for conditions.

Safety belts were worn by all occupants, which prevented serious injury. Assisting agencies on scene were the Michigan State Police and UP Health System-Marquette EMS.
