MARQUETTE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE at 1:30 p.m. Friday:
A teenager from outside the area was injured Thursday afternoon while hiking at Dead River Falls in Marquette Township.
According to the Marquette Township Fire Department, the boy was hiking when he fell 20-30 feet down a steep hill. He suffered minor injuries to his lower body.
The Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Marquette County Rescue 131, and Marquette Township Fire and Ambulance helped bring the boy out of the woods. His name, hometown and current condition were not released.
Rescue crews are responding to a report of an injured hiker at Dead River Falls in Marquette Township.
The call came in around 1:30 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
The hiker's identity and the extent of their injuries has not been released. It's also unclear how the person was hurt. The hike to the waterfalls is treacherous, with narrow trails on edges of steep hills. It's also a popular place for cliff diving.
The Marquette County Sheriff's Office, Marquette County Search and Rescue, and Marquette Township Fire and Ambulance are at the scene, using special equipment to reach the hiker and bring them out of the woods.
