MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Girls on the Run Spring Program registration begins soon.
Sloan Dorr, the Girls on the Run U.P. Program Coordinator, says although Girls on the Run is a national program, it's relatively new to the Upper Peninsula. It's been in the eastern U.P. for about a decade, but it's only in its second year in the Marquette area.
Dorr says GOTR is an after-school program for girls grades three through five aimed at inspiring them to find out who they are, build confidence, practice kindness, and work together-- all based around different running-type activities. She says the girls will play different games, like "red light green light" to build those skills.
The Spring Program 2019 is from April 1 through June 9, and June 9 ends with the Girls on the Run 5k event at Presque Isle Park in Marquette.
Registration for the Spring Program starts January 28 and runs through February 22. Dorr says there is a $110 registration fee, but there are scholarships and grants available to help with the cost if needed.
