MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - A recount petition was filed in Marquette County for a total recount of precincts 1 through 7, and both AV Counting Boards on Monday.
Margaret Brumm, a candidate for Marquette City Commission, filed the petition with the County Clerk on Monday morning.
The fee for the recount is $225 - $25 for each precinct to be recounted.
This comes after a close count on the August 6 primary election in Michigan. Brumm was inched out of the top four spots by just 21 votes, according to the original count.
"Anytime it's less than 50 votes, a lot of times candidates will choose to do this, so it's definitely a preference thing," says Marquette County Clerk Linda Talsma. "But in order to keep the integrity alive, I'm here for the public so any time they want to do a recount I'm available."
The County Clerk now must notify other candidates in that election within 24 hours of the petition being filed.
Those candidates will have the chance to appeal the petition, but since all precincts are being counted, Talsma says doing so would be moot.
The date and time for the recount have not yet been determined, but they will be made public, as recounts are a public forum.
We will continue to update this story as it develops.
