ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - Project Keep Kids Warm Thursday night is setting up for their big free shopping day coming up on Saturday. Volunteers were sorting clothing donations and setting up tables inside the Ishpeming Armory.
Project Keep Kids Warm collects donations of new or gently used winter clothing like hats, gloves, boots and snowpants. It's all in preparation for the free shopping day which allows those in need to pick out the winter gear for them just ahead of the cold weather. The Project Coordinator says it's thanks to volunteers and those who've made donations that the project
"There are a lot of people all over the Ishpeming and Negaunee area and other areas who've made the donations of the new or used winter clothing who don't get the recognition and they're here in spirit tonight too," said Project Coordinator, Richard Derby. "It's all about neighbors helping neighbors and we do that in this county as well as anywhere in the country."
Project Keep Kids Warm has been going strong for the past 10 years. Saturday's free shopping day is from 9 a.m. until noon at the armory.
