Pride Fest 2019 set for Saturday

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - 6th annual Pride Fest hosted by U.P. Rainbow Pride will happen at Tourist Park in Marquette Saturday, September 14, from noon until 10 p.m.

Josh Farmer, the event’s co-organizer, says the festival celebrating LGBTQ rights has seen a steady increase in attendance each year.

With nice weather in the Saturday forecast, this year promises to meet or exceed attendance in years past.

You’ll find a family-friendly atmosphere with activities to keep the kids occupied throughout the day. You’ll also find various vendors, all your favorite food trucks and live music from start to finish.

"It’ll range from everything from drumming circles to a DJ to a pretty outrageous drag show. So there's going to be a lot of variety there. It is by far the most popular attraction,” Farmer declared.

Several non-profit organizations from the Marquette community, ranging from social services to kids organizations, will also be on hand to answer any questions.

"The focus of the day is to come and have a really good time. People like myself will be walking around with information if folks are interested, but far and away the agenda is to have a good day,” Farmer asserted.

Farmer says the long term goal is to establish a brick and mortar outreach center in the Upper Peninsula within the next year.
