The Delta County Prosecutor's Office has released the name and more details about the armed robbery at Hardee's in Escanaba Tuesday.
59-year-old Mark James Wilson, of Kalamazoo, was arraigned Wednesday, July 10, on charges of armed robbery in the 94th District Court of Delta County. Wilson is being held in the Delta County Jail on a $500,000 bond.
On Tuesday, July 9, Escanaba Department Public Safety officers responded to a report of an armed robbery at Hardee's. Officers were able to clear the restaurant and attempted to make contact with Wilson, who was in the men's restroom.
The prosecutor said that after several commands from officers, Wilson came out and was arrested.
Detective investigation determined Wilson passed a note to a Hardee's employee that said he had a gun and wanted money to be brought to him in the restroom. Employees called 911 when he went to the restroom.
In referencing the efficient response of the Hardee's employees, Delta County Prosecutor, Brett Gardner, said, "The employees' calm and quick response to this terrifying situation, allowed police to arrive quickly and detain the suspect without anyone getting hurt."
Prosecutor Gardner also praised the fast and effective response of law enforcement agencies involved.
Wilson was previously convicted in Delta County Circuit Court in 2009 for the unarmed robbery of Arby's.
Escanaba Department Public Safety was assisted by the Michigan State Police and the Delta County Sheriff's Office.
The prosecutor said Wilson is also considered innocent until proven guilty.

Delta County Central Dispatch received a phone call On Tuesday, July 9, of a man inside Hardee’s Restaurant who was passing a note to the attendant indicating that this was an armed robbery.
The suspect, a 59-year-old Portage man, then entered the bathroom and held up inside until authorities arrived.
Units from Escanaba Public Safety, Delta County Sheriff’s Office and the Michigan State Police Gladstone Post arrived on scene and established a perimeter.
Escanaba Public Safety Officers entered the restaurant and eventually talked the suspect into leaving the bathroom without incident.
The man was taken into custody. No firearm was located, but the note was recovered.
Charges are being sought through the Delta County Prosecutor’s office for attempted robbery.
No further information is being released at this time.
