MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - With the St. Patrick's Day holiday weekend, law enforcement is stepping up patrols. This weekend will see plenty of people head downtown and into bars to celebrate.

Marquette City Police are just one agency that says they'll have an increase in patrols all around the area.

"Whenever there's a holiday weekend where people are going to be out drinking alcohol, we have extra patrols on to make sure that we conduct a lot of traffic stops," said Marquette City Police Officer, Nate Dawson. "We try to pay close attention to people's driving to make sure there aren't people out there that are drinking and driving. So always be cautious around the holidays. Better safe than sorry."

In addition, the Michigan State Police are focusing on impaired driving with their St. Patrick's Day Operation C.A.R.E. In that operation C.A.R.E. stands for Crash Awareness Reduction Efforts.
