IRON RIVER, Mich. (WLUC) - A child was a injured in an accidental shooting in Iron River Thursday evening.
The Iron River Police Department and EMS were dispatched to reports of an accidental shooting at 7 p.m. Once on scene, police learned the 4-year-old boy had found an unlocked gun left in the living room area of the house, and discharged the weapon.
According to police, the child was wounded, but awake and alert. The boy was transported to Aspirus Hospital by EMS and later taken by helicopter to Milwaukee Children's Hospital.
Police say, at this time, the boy is in stable condition.
The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
The Iron River Police Department was assisted by the Michigan State Police and EMS personnel.
