Polar Roll fat bike and snowshoe race takes place Saturday

ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - More than 600 bikers and snowshoers are gearing up for this weekend’s Polar Roll race.

The event includes a 40-mile race that begins in Marquette, and a 15-mile race that begins in Ishpeming. Both races will end in at Ishpeming High School.

The event features the many miles of groomed single track biking trails maintained through the winter months.

“To have an event in February, you’ve got to continue to prepare for that through the shoulder months of November, December, and January. Those are months that a lot of people end up being very inactive, you’re not going to be, and you can’t be inactive if you’re going to go polar roll,” said Todd Poquette, Director of the 906 Adventure Team.

Both Polar Roll races will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday, February 15. A portion of all race proceeds will benefit the efforts of the Noquemanon Trail Network, Range Area Mountain Bike Association and snowmobile groomers.
