Plane skis break through ice on Lake Superior in Houghton County


TORCH LAKE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - Houghton County Sheriff's Department reports a small plane's skis broke through the ice on Lake Superior Sunday afternoon in Torch Lake Township.

It happened just before 3 p.m. near White City beach. The pilot of a 1964 Taylor Craft told deputies he was preparing to taxi down the ice when the skis broke through the ice.

The pilot was able to exit the aircraft and walk to shore. No injuries were reported.

The plane was unable to be pulled from the water because it was slipping deeper into the lake.
