'Pints for a Purpose' raises money for research, kids summer camp

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - It was beer for a good cause on Monday.

The Muscular Dystrophy Association, or MDA, held their first 'Pints for a Purpose' fundraiser at the Ore Dock Brewery.

All money raised benefits research efforts and their summer camp for children ages 8 to 17.

MDA is the second largest provider of funds for neuro-muscular research behind the United States Government.

Based in Green Bay and spanning 42 counties, MDA relies on these events for funding.

"All of our funding is through events like this, it's very important," says development coordinator Andrea Meulemans. "We are a non-profit organization so we really rely on support from communities to help our clients living within the community like here in Marquette."

The event featured a jazz band, silent auctions, raffles, and of course, beer.
