IRON MOUNTAIN, Mich. (WLUC) - The Pine Mountain Ski Resort has upgraded the haul rope cable that conveys chairs up and down the mountain.

This 9000’ 1 ¼” cable had to be custom made and shipped from out east.

Over the past week, resort workers twisted the old rope and threaded the new one onto the towers at the resort.

To splice, or marry, the two ends of the rope, someone from Pennsylvania was brought in because this job is only done by 2 to 3 people in the world. Splicing is necessary so the rope will appear seamless.

This update creates a safer environment for the public.

"So this upgrade is all about the safety of our guests, to ensure that they have a great experience,” said Pine Mountain’s General Manager Barb Van De Hei.

Season passes are now available for this upcoming winter season.
