MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - After being damaged last fall and suffering a long winter, Picnic Rocks Park is once again open tonight.
The parking lot at Shiras Park was heavily damaged after strong gales blew in last October. Rocks covered the lot and portions of pavement were ripped up. The park has been closed ever since. Marquette City Manager Mike Angeli says the park is now reopened, the rocks have been removed, and the parking lot has been recreated, but the work isn’t done yet.
“We are seeking grants to help us put together a plan, a design, for rebuilding the park, or redesigning it or doing it in such a fashion that it has less of an impact from storm damage,” said Angeli.
Angeli says repairs could cost upwards of a million dollars.
Meanwhile, Presque Isle Park reopened to the public Monday after it was also damaged last fall.
