MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - It's National Library Week and the Peter White Public Library is celebrating by opening their new local history room.

Located on the upper level of the library, the new room features several historic, unique and local collections. On the bookshelves and in organized filing cabinets, the room includes old issues of The Mining Journal, the Wes Perron Collection and Cloverland issues.

By placing the materials in this new room, it also gives the public a new quite space to research and preserves the materials in a climate-controlled environment.

“It really is important to showcase our local history materials. Marquette has a really rich history and so this room gives us a chance to show it off,” said Samantha Ashby of the Peter White Public Library.

The room is open on Wednesdays and Fridays from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
