MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC)- Pet Partners of Ishpeming was at Upper Peninsula Health Plan in Marquette Saturday offering a therapy pet handler course. Pet partners brings therapy animals to assisted living homes, Camp New Day, and Bay Cliff.

During the class, prospective therapy pet owners learned how their animals should behave in a therapy environment and what their pets will have to do to become certified therapy animals. Event Organizer Jo Gerrish says the relationship between pet and patient is remarkable.

“There's so much research being done now with the benefits of the human/ animal bond,” said Jo, a Pet Partners Test Evaluator. “Seeing the results that happen between the people we are visiting and the pets is overwhelmingly positive.”

Pet Partners handling course is $40 to attend and is held four times every year. Their next pet evaluation is scheduled for December 2nd from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. at the Westwood Mall.
