ISHPEMING TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WLUC) - One in five children in the Upper Peninsula do not get enough food, and the group Patriot Packs hopes to curb that issue.
Members of the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Township were filling Patriot Packs on Sunday. The packs give students who need food over the weekend a bag with meals and snacks. These packs are available at all NICE Community Schools, as well as Republic-Michigamme schools.
“With school lunches, some receive free or reduced lunches, but over the weekend, they don't have anything, so we just want to be able to fill that gap,” said Amanda Stacy, Patriot Packs coordinator.
If you would like to donate money or food to Patriot Packs, all donations can be brought to the Christ the King Lutheran Church in Ishpeming Township.
