Two people are dead after a crash on US-2 in southeastern Dickinson County Thursday afternoon.

According to the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, deputies were called to a two-vehicle crash on US-2 near Alfredson Road at 2:41 p.m. Thursday.

Authorities say a westbound Chevrolet Equinox crossed the center line, hitting a GMC Sierra head on. The two Tipler, Wis. residents in the Equinox, a 56-year-old man and a 59-year-old woman, died at the scene. Their names have not been released.

The two Suamico, Wis. residents in the Sierra were taken to Dickinson County Healthcare System. Authorities say they are expected to survive.

Authorities say speed was a factor in the crash, and road conditions were poor at the time. The highway was closed for several hours while the crash was investigated.

The Michigan State Police Iron Mountain Post; Norway Police Department; Menominee County Sheriff's Office; Integrity Care EMS; North Alert EMS; Norway Fire Department; Hermansville Rescue; Dickinson County Road Commission; Dickinson County Sheriff's Office Victim's Advocate Unit; and Joe's and LR Vincent wreckers all assisted at the scene.
