MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - The festivities surrounding Marquette's status as Kraft Hockeyville USA continued Sunday with an open skate event at the Berry Events Center.

People of all ages and different skill levels enjoyed their Sunday afternoon on the ice. The open skate was free to the public, and offered another way to build excitement about Marquette being named Kraft Hockeyville USA.

”It’s very exciting for the community of Marquette and Northern Michigan University,” said Northern Michigan University Associate Athletic Director Bridget Berube. “It’s proud to support that anyway that they can and so we are happy to kickoff and celebrate Hockeyville with the rest of Marquette.”

More Hockeyville USA celebrations are happening on Monday evening, including a parade in downtown Marquette. These festivities are all leading up to the NHL hockey game on Tuesday night at Lakeview arena.
