UPDATE: Name released of man involved in serious Alger County snowmobile crash

ALGER COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - UPDATE: 1/15 12:24 PM EST: The Alger County Sheriff's Office has released an update regarding the man involved in a serious snowmobile accident that happened on January 13.

The operator of the snowmobile is identified as Mr. Todd Cantile (55 yrs. Old) of Rockford MI.

He is still listed as being in critical condition.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office would also like to remind the public that 911 TEXT’s are an option if emergency services are needed in areas where cell phone calls will not go through.
A snowmobiler was airlifted to the hospital after a crash Sunday night.

The Alger County Sheriff's Office says a 911 call at 11:10 p.m. reported a single-person snowmobile crash on Trail No. 8 near Melstrand.

The Alger County Sheriff’s Office, Alger County EMS and Alger County Rescue 21 were dispatched to the scene.

Investigation revealed that the operator of the snowmobile was traveling west bound on Trail No. 8 when he left the trail and struck a tree.

The operator was removed from the scene by Alger County Rescue 21 and transported to Munising Memorial Hospital by Alger County EMS. He was later flown to UP Healthy System-Marquette by Valley Med Flight.

The driver’s condition and name have not been released.

Authorities say excessive speed and alcohol are believed to be factors in the crash, which is still under investigation.
