ESCANABA, Mich. (WLUC) - The Mabel D. (Skip) Ogle Nursing Scholarship was recently established at Bay College to assist students enrolled in the RN (Registered Nursing) Program at Bay College. The scholarship is intended to follow the selected student through the nursing program and provide financial assistance each year until their nursing degree is obtained.

Bay College student, Mallory Brockman, was the first scholarship recipient of the Mabel D. (Skip) Ogle Nursing Scholarship.

Mallory expressed her gratefulness stating, “When I enrolled in the nursing program at Bay, I knew it was going to be tough. However, I have kids at home, and I wanted to show them the importance of receiving a college education. Nursing school requires a lot of dedication, and time and money are always tight. This generous scholarship from the Ogle’s means so much to me. It has lessened my financial burden and pushed me a step closer to receiving my degree. I am truly thankful from the bottom of my heart.”

Mabel, a current resident of Marquette, Michigan, is a 1951 graduate of Harper Hospital School of Nursing in Detroit.

Tom Ogle, Mabel’s son, stated, “My mom is such an amazing woman; she is very compassionate and caring, which made her an excellent nurse during her career. She is also a firm believer in education. The students graduating from the nursing program at Bay College are knowledgeable and ready for the workforce, which is one of the reasons my mom established the scholarship at Bay College. It feels great to be able to help students succeed.”
